LYNX Range Forest typing trainer

Mischievous imps carry letters out of the forest. Type what their sign says and the lynx sends them packing: single keys first, then pairs, short words and long ones as you get sure and quick. Your progress stays in this browser.

Playing on LYNXgram: change the layout

Letters shoot, Esc pauses, Enter starts. Clicking away pauses too; Tab and shortcuts keep working.

Your layout

Practising on LYNXgram, built into this site: it is here on any computer you plug your LYNX into, without Vial or a file. It is written for a German (QWERTZ) computer; on another, say which below.

How to bring your own layout over
  1. Connect your LYNX and open Vial, the desktop app or vial.rocks in the browser.
  2. In Vial, choose File › Save current layout. It saves your keymap as a .vil file.
  3. Here, choose Import a Vial layout and pick that file.
  4. Check Your computer’s keyboard layout. Vial stores where each key is; your computer decides which letter that key types, so a QWERTZ computer types Z where a QWERTY one types Y.
  5. Play: each target now shows above the hand that types its letter, and the cats show your letters. Switch back to LYNXgram under Layout whenever you like; your file stays.

Your layout and your progress stay in this browser, in its local storage. Nothing is uploaded or sent anywhere. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes them.

The cats show each hand's keys as Vial does, from the keyboard's own switch positions, home keys marked, with the letters of the layout played: LYNXgram, built in, or your own from Vial. Range judges the letter typed, so it plays on any keyboard.
